Dear Parents

Center for Disease Control and prevention has determined children younger than 5 years old as high-risk groups for influenza complications this fall. The Sylvania Children Center is following the CDC’s recommendation by asking parents to keep their children at home until 24 hours after the resolution of symptoms, and when the child’s temperature first remained normal without the use of fever reducing medications. This is in compliance with the SCC policy for the children to be readmitted when free of fever for 24 hours and/or when the thread of contagion is over.

We have been so thankful to our informed and concerned families who initiate preventing the spread of germs to other children by keeping their sick children at home. If we see sign and symptoms of illness, we will also call parents to pick up their children to reduce the recuperation time and the possibility of exposing their friends to what they may have.

We are asking parents to please continue practicing the following techniques with their children:

Cough or sneeze in the bend of their arms (or their sleeves)

Do not touch their mouth, eyes and nose

Wash their hands with soap and water repeatedly throughout the day

The following websites are loaded with information, we encourage you to take time and familiarize yourself with this alarming disease and its preventive techniques.

In children, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:

  • Fast breathing or trouble breathing

  • Bluish or gray skin color

  • Not drinking enough fluids

  • Severe or persistent vomiting

  • Not waking up or not interacting

  • Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held

  • Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

We hope that the precautionary measure will help keep the virus away.

Thank you

SCC Staff
