Staff

The experience and professionalism of SCC's staff sets us apart from other child care programs. Each classroom is led by degreed teachers. Our direct care staff members are highly trained in respecting children, responding to their individual needs and reassuring parents in excellence in early childhood education and care.

Staff members enhance their skills through annual staff training and professional development. As a matter of fact, SCC staff strives to attain 20 hours of specialized early childhood training each year. All staff members have first aid training, and are certified in CPR. They have training in childhood communicable diseases and child abuse.

Family - Staff Interactions

Families are welcome to visit SCC anytime, with or without advance notice. We strive to plan monthly events to provide the families with additional opportunities to visit us at school.

Each classroom prepares weekly newsletter informing families of key accomplishments of the day, to give them an overview of what the class is doing. For individual updates, you are welcome to speak briefly with teachers while dropping off or picking up your child. You may also schedule a one-on-one conference at your convenience in addition to our scheduled conferences during the year.

Teachers will provide you with a comprehensive written assessment of your child's development and progress in the classroom. SCC uses Ages and Stages to initially asses the child’s development level; and the High/Scope Child Observation Record as a guide to observe skills that your child is emerging, developing and mastering. Parent-teacher conferences are then held to discuss these reports that summarize staff members' observations of children's cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development. A comprehensive portfolio is developed during the year and will be given to the family when they leave SCC.

Families

We view your child's time at SCC as a partnership between staff and families. In a recent survey of parents, 100% of respondents answered that they feel welcome and comfortable at SCC. The SCC staff strives to understand the needs of parents as well as children, and to treat parents with respect and consideration.

Families are encouraged to become actively involved with their children's care and education. From daily communications with teachers to involvement in the Parent Group, we strive to help you stay informed and engaged.
